Handling political losses
by: Maurice L Bonamigo, August 2005
Serious political candidates make major sacrifices involving
family time and income just to take a chance to become a public servant.
The candidate's spouse, children, and staffers also must endure the ups
and downs of victory and defeat. Take note, the winners often have trouble
adjusting to the normal pace of post campaign life. The losers feel as though
they have lost a member of the family. That is why few campaigners are prepared
for this roller coaster ride.
People in politics often see failure as a stigma. It is not. Always remember,
as one door closes another one opens up. Be proud and feel comfortable when
you are in the political arena. By getting involved in a campaign of politics,
you are already proving that you are an exceptional person. The average
person rarely takes chances therefore, he has few failures as well as fewer
successes. The fact that you have failed at something means you were being
aggressive. Don't worry, everybody loses at some point. The truth of the
matter is, every single successful person is someone who has failed, but
don't ever consider him or her a failure. View this as a stepping stone
on your way to the next victory.
Your campaign will inspire future leaders.
Take a close look at your volunteers, they could very well be our future
leaders of our country. Your campaign will always bring issues to the forefront.
You have learned lessons that will help you win the next time. Everything
you learned from your first campaign was from making mistakes.
