Men
can show authority and power with the proper appointments
by: Maurice L Bonamigo, July 2005
"Neckwear: The definitive
power tie is red!" says Bonamigo.
When you are coming into a meeting and you want to express authority, a
power tie will help you do just that. The red tie is similar to
being in the bullring, the colour emits aggressiveness, so
beware
it is not always a wise choice for someone who wants to be approachable.
In which case, I would advise choosing a deep purple to soften up the strength
of the colour. One can still have power, but it gives a little more warmth
to it if you go with a purple or turquoise. Note, you will see President
George W. Bush wear a purple or turquoise tie. You will also pay close attention
to the proper shirt that one would wear to enhance the attitude conveyed
by adding contrast. Pairing together a classic solid white shirt with a
red, purple, turquoise, pink, or yellow can do the job of making you seem
friendlier and more approachable.
A proper dressed man must pay close attention to the correct knot and width
of the tie. A Double Windsor is always best and the one that I prefer to
use on a regular basis. I personally think, a power tie is always a thicker
tie, but a thin tie can make a powerful statement as well. Some Italian
designers are using thin ties, therefore you will want to be sure that you
use a full Windsor as opposed to a single knot, but make sure that you wear
a solid colour shirt as to a print shirt for optimal results
