I want to start off by welcoming each and every
one of you here tonight.
I am Maurice Bonamigo and I am here tonight to take my commitment to our
Grand Old Party to the next level. As the founder and current President
of the Palm Beach chapter of the Log Cabin Republicans, I have found many
of you embracing me and the ideals of the Palm Beach Log Cabin Republicans.
On behalf of the chapter and myself, I am steadfastly determined to do
whatever is necessary to guarantee the reelection of President George
W. Bush.
It has been my unique pleasure through the years to support and to raise
funds for the campaigns of several Republican friends, but no campaign
has touched me as personally or as profoundly as the one we embark upon
tonight. Our stakes are high. The presidency is a serious business. We
cannot afford to lose. We need a man of serious purpose, unmatched experience,
knowledge and ability. Someone who understands government, who understands
our country, and someone who understands the world. This president has
rebuilt a demoralized, under funded and unappreciated military. It is
important to keep the armed forces the most modern and respected forces
in the world. It is, and should be the pride of our nation, the military,
who constantly struggles to preserve civilization.
ecessary to guarantee the reelection of President George
W. Bush.
This president promotes prosperity and equal opportunity by helping Americans
most in need and defending American security against the enemies of freedom—enemies
without countries, without boundaries, and without remorse. The Republican
party will continue to fight in order to ensure American servicemen and
women have the resources they need to continue to win the war on terror
and to return home safely: to renew the Patriot act, and to provide government
agencies with a critical tool to defend Americans from terrorists attacks;
and to collaborate with our global neighbors in ending nuclear arms proliferation
and to halt production to chemical and biological weapons throughout the
world.
ecessary to guarantee the reelection of President George
W. Bush.
America should be the model of freedom, morality, and prosperity.
As Americans
we
Must never forget our heroic origins, and never lose our natural God-given
optimism. The freedoms of our flag--freedoms of speech, religion, and
enterprise. These freedoms are special, rare, fragile, and deserve our
everlasting respect and protection. We must return to the basics—our
shared history—and celebrate American rituals—without abandon
and without the shame so characteristic of those who would believe political
correctness stands before truth and the tenets of liberty that forged
our great nation. At this point in time, we must not mark time, we must
make a difference, we must make this country stronger, and we must keep
this country freer. It is up to all of us as we are the people—we
must take responsibility for the economic opportunity and equality of
opportunity that is an inheritance all Americans should cherish.
America strives for great objectives. The most important goals of America
are the expansion of peace and freedom throughout the world and making
our country a more compassionate and a prosperous nation. Everyone has
the opportunity to work, succeed,
and realize the promise of our country represents. Where those who are
shortsighted see only problems and oppression, we see possibilities and
freedom. We must work to change the culture from two things that are often
said, “look out for # 1 “and “if it feels good, do it”
to a society of E pluribus Unum—of many, one-- where people know
that they will be held accountable for what they do.
The conservative way of life advocates education both at home and in the
schools. Stringent standards for our educators and their students are
the foundation of tomorrow. We must pledge allegiance “under God
“and under the sanctity from whence our Country has drawn its greatest
strength. We must envision a future we are leaving for our children that
accommodates the individual needs of every child, but does not belittle
the fundamental truths intrinsic to their American birthright.
As President George W. Bush has demonstrated, Republicans will remain
focused and committed to our strong priorities, passing permanent tax
cuts to further stimulate the economy and provide all Americans tax relief
and job growth. Forty years of liberal policies have made the quality
of education an almost-obsolete notion. Outsource-based employment and
the transition of American jobs overseas are the direct results of decades
of neglect to our children and their education. It is not the unemployment
in this country that is bad; it is a work force that is without ethics,
ambition, and education.
Our national security, prosperity, and freedoms depend on each and every
American.
There is a growing but unnoticed threat to US national security. A new
terrorist, nuclear/bioweapons and geopolitical threat may well come from
an axis including the regimes of Fidel Castro in Cuba, Hugo Chavez in
Venezuela and the pro Castro presidents in Brazil and Ecuador.
Castro, Chavez, Lula da Salvia of Brazil have years of links with Iran
and China. Visiting Iran, Castro said “the peoples of governments
of Cuba and Iran can bring America to its knees”. Chavez also visited
Iran, where he declared a “strategic alliance” with that sponsor
of terrorism.”
The new pro-Castro axis could expand to include more than nine countries
with 340 million people, There is also the possibility that thousands
of Islamic and newly
Indoctrinated regional terrorists could try to attack the US. From Latin
America.
Combining the strategic experience of communist Cuba and its Soviet-provided
Bioweapons technology with the oil-derived financial resources of Venezuela
and the long-established nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs
of Brazil could mean that the pro-Castro axis might be able to threaten
its neighbors and the US. With weapons that can eliminate the masses with
a single deployment and not to mention the ballistic missiles.
Furthermore, communist China has established close political and military
relations. With Cuba and Venezuela. Presently, China is flying two reconnaissance
satellites with Brazil. Lula da Silva has announced his plan to greatly
expand Brazil’s relations with China. The pro-Castro axis could
soon be geopolitically aligned with the military help by communist China.
Cuba’s espionage apparatus (the DGI) one of the largest on the planet
with more that 10,000 spies, has been active on a global scale. They have
learned undercover operations
cryptography, falsification of documents, training of operatives, theft
of secret information, establishment of illegal centers, the penetration
of governments and armed forces, disinformation, and assassination of
political leaders.
Cuba has trained more than 30,000 terrorists from various continents,
of which 10,000 were from Latin American countries, and rest being operatives
from the Middle East and
Europe. Between the DGI and the 30,000 Cuban trained terrorists, they
are providing the cadre for Castro’s new strategy: helping radical
political leaders friendly to him take control of their countries by winning
national elections in which they present themselves as “populists
“opposed to corruption, while concealing their ultimate purposes.
That being said, at least 8 in 10 of Florida’s nearly half-million
Cuban –American voters backed Bush in 2000. As it is now, about
60% of Cuban-American voters in south-east Florida said they planed to
vote for Bush.
We must gain that other 40 %.and that is solely up to each and every one
of you here tonight to make this happen.
With the future of the democratic process at a critical juncture in Venezuela,
we should
work to bring all possible pressure to bear on Hugo Chavez and to prevent
that country from turning into another Marxist government Cuba, full of
corruption, terror, oppression, and other human rights violations.
At this time it is important to support President George W. Bush and to
stiffen sanctions on that communist island .It is time to make up for
20 years of being soft on Castro and to free Cuba from Dictatorship and
turn that once great nation into a democracy full of hope and prosperity.
Our collective community awaits our contribution, not our criticism, our
compassion, not our deceit or dissidence. I hope you will join me now—because
the best days are REALLY yet to come.
